I agree that subscriptions suck, financially. I understand why developers want stable income coming in.
If Apple’s Journal app eventually offers their app across all of their devices, I will seriously consider switching because it has E2EE, which is why I went with Day One journaling app. I paid £32.99 for the year, which is roughly £2.75 per month. I’ve been with Day One since June this year.
Where I can, I will always choose to a one-off payment over subscription because I am currently on a mission to reduce all of my outgoings as possible.
Apple’s own apps are a lot better than I thought they would be. What I didn’t mention is I use their Pages, Numbers and Keynotes app to replace my Microsoft 365 subscription.
